The Wines of Mosaic/deLorimier

Sauvignon Blanc

Mosaic/deLorimier Sauvignon Blancs represent a straight-forward example of the variety from the Alexander Valley. Vibrant, clean and fresh, this wine is not an expression of winemaking artistry, but rather the pure expression of the vineyard's fruit flavors.

Spectrum Reserve Sauvignon Blanc

This marriage combines the unique spice of Sauvignon Blanc and opulence of Semillon and Viognier that the deLorimier estate produces. There is a complexity of flavors and aromas that range from citrus and spice to earth and melon. Selective barrel fermentation adds further nuances of toast and vanilla.

Taking Sauvignon Blanc to a different level, the blending of varietals expands the horizons on this wine, with a structured definition that is unique, intriguing, and appealing.

Chardonnay

We have six different varieties of Chardonnay clones currently in production, four of which come together in our Estate Chardonnay. Careful barrel fermentation, coupled with partial malolactic fermentation brings forth the finest qualities of each. Some clones are known for their exotic elements, others bear a citrus dominance, yet forward fruit character always shows through on our Alexander valley wines.

Merlot

We have been farming and producing Merlot for more than a decade to use as blending tool for the renowned red Meritage, Mosaic. Since the 1990 vintage, a very small amount of Merlot has been bottled varietally each year to highlight this luscious grape. Alexander Valley Merlot is effusively fruity by nature, brimming with ripe red fruit flavors of cherry and plum. We do everything that we can in the winemaking process to preserve this fruit essence.

Mosaic Red Meritage

Cabernet Sauvignon forms the backbone of our Meritage wine, complimented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec as the vintage dictates. These meld in an engaging, full bodied red that is supple in texture, soft of tannin, and long on the palate.

Like the finest mosaics, this wine represents high art: careful attention to detail and composition, complexity, texture, and a dynamic interplay of components.

Lace

In special years when the weather allows for a small harvest of Botrytised grapes late in the fall, we make this lush dessert wine from Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, or a blend of the two. Botrytis Cineria, the "noble mold", creates a wine of naturally high sweetness and intensity of flavor, while maintaining the fresh fruit character. The risk that Botrytis won't develop in most years to meet our standards is outweighed by the reward of this magical wine.
